Comments:
After in depth study of your tray, it was easy to see the hard work done putting
it together. Great effort!
You did a good job of covering the animals and being clever to include different
types of each within their subclass. Example: tiger and lion within wild cats
and horse and donkey within horse family.
Having multiple animals on a button and especially a mother and young, was
brilliant and always gains extra credit.
Good thought to include both a shape (realistic or square) and a sew thru
which are something that is looked for on a tray.
Animal activities are very important in an animal award so look to use
more of that type. Also consider using more "identifiable animals"
(i.e. what kind of dog) and less stylized ones (the domestic pig, the domestic
cats).
Your labeling was good with a couple exceptions. The tiger is labeled "decoupage".
Decoupage is a decorative finish (see pg 74 Classification book) so the base
of the button would need to be labeled. We could not give credit for the material
of this button.
Labeling the studios is important. 3 studios (the tiger, ceramic deer and
fabric pig) is ok (20% here). If the fimo cat is also a studio, your tray
would be consider 'overloaded"(see pg 8 "Complete representation"
of the Blue Book).
Look for a wider variety of materials. Plastics were repeated.
The horses and chariot looks like brass. If it is, it would be incorrectly
labeled and the tray would be disqualified. We had to assume it was copper
because we could not physically check it. Be certain it is copper before you
use it this way again. We feel you probably tried and did the best with what
you had to work with but more OME - Other material embellishment - would upgrade
your tray.
We didn't have time to consult more knowledgeable judges so this is only a
suggestion. Though we liked it, there is a fear is that some judges may frown
upon the rampant lion as being unacceptable. Not sure why except that it might
be considered a symbol. You might consider researching this and teaching all
of us what you find out. It would be a good thing for us all to know.
